Tropic skincare – Face Smooth… a review!

logo

Following on from my recent post when I received my package of goodies from Tropic Skincare I wanted to review each product in turn. Today is all about their Face Smooth…

Just a quick reminder about where Tropic originated from…

Founder of the company Susan Ma appeared on ‘The Apprentice’ in 2010, she didn’t win but after the show she sent Lord Sugar’s wife a package of products, Mrs Sugar loved them and convinced her husband to invest in her cruelty free, organic and vegan cosmetic company. The rest is history and to this day it’s still the only business he’s invested in that hasn’t actually won the competition! Mrs Sugar must be a force to be reckoned with!!

Tropic Skincare is a cosmetics company that produces it’s products from entirely natural products and 100% pure plant extracts, meaning no nasty parabens or synthetics.

Now whilst I fully support all cruetly free and vegan cosmetic companies, I will sit on the fence with a brand until I’ve tried it for myself. Sadly so few companies meet the standards of premium high street brands but charge premium prices. It can make it very hard for a make-up artist like myself to make the switch from brands I know and trust – despite their less environmentally friendly attributes.

When I was approached by Rebecca Bowden from the company about trying out some of the products I of course said yes. I am pleased to say I can offer entirely cruelty free make-overs at the moment but my product range is a little limited so I’m always looking to add to my collection.

Rebecca sent me a lipstick, 4 eyeshadows, a lip balm, body wash and this face smooth. Of course couldn’t wait to try it all. Reviews of all the other products to follow but for now I want to tell you about my favourite first… Face Smooth brightening polish has made such a huge difference to the look and feel of my skin I will never turn back! In fact I’m wanting to bulk buy it for christmas presents, I know all the ladies in my life will love it just as much. When you open the pot, the smell is divine, quite a strong citrus scent, really uplifting for the morning. It’s yellow in colour and a scrub like texture.

How do you use it?

You use the face smooth 2 – 3 times a week. I use it before I wash my face. I use it in the shower in the mornings as that’s the most convenient time for me. I use about a teaspoons worth on my face and that seems about right. It’s a heavy scrub and as you rub it on it really feels like it’s doing something, unlike many I’ve tried. Initially it feels a little too rough but you soon love that about it. Rub your face in circular motions paying close attention to any dry patches as the natural oils will help to rejuvenate those areas. Then once you’re done simply wash off, it does seem to just melt away but it can leave a quite oily greasy residue which I personally prefer to use another light face wash to help remove, but only use a very small amount of wash as you don’t want to undo all the good work the polish has done. You’re then left with the smoothest feeling skin, it’s just lush!

I’ve felt that since using this scrub my skin has been miles better, the redness reduced and pores are far smaller. I wear a lot less make-up too, which is a big deal when make-up is your profession. I’ve just felt that I haven’t need to!

Minimal make-up on me today!

What’s in it?

Acai Berry – Rich in omega oils, minerals and Vitamins E, C and A, this super-berry works to visibly boost skin radiance.
Organic Rice flour – Traditionally used in the Far East to treat blemishes, wrinkles and pigmentation, Rice Flour has soothing and calming properties for the skin. Also helps to reduce skin redness and pore size.
Sugar Cane – Rich in natural alpha hydroxy acids that gently exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Promotes a brighter complexion.
Sweet Almond – Packed with powerful monounsaturated acids that promote skin elasticity. An excellent emolient that dramatically softens and soothes the skin without clogging pores.
Vitamin E – A powerful antioxidant that helps to protect skin cell membrane from free radicals and oxidation. Essential in maintaining youthful, nourished and healthy skin.
Chamomile – Contains skin healing and anti-inflammatory properties as well as reducing skin puffiness. Effective for use on sensitive skin.
Golden Jojoba – the most similar in composition to the skin’s own oils, this luxuriously soft, liquid wax cleans clogged pores and restores skin’s natural pH balance.

Sweet orange – A sweet, fresh and tangy smell that calms the mind, bringing happiness and delight. Also acts as an antiseptic.

Lemon – A refreshingly bright and uplifting scent to invigorate the senses.

Where can I get it?

It’s £15 to buy direct from their website or from Rebecca directly via her site  www.tropicskincare.co.uk/shop/rebeccabowden she would be very happy to help you with your purchase! She’ll certainly be hearing from me very soon!

Have you tried out any Tropic products? I’d love to hear from you.

Tropic Skin Care

I was recently contacted by a lovely lady called Becky about trying out the some of the products from the Tropic Skin Care range, of course I said yes…

For those who are new to the company here’s a bit of information about them…

Susan Ma founded Tropic Skin Care when she was just 16 years old. With her ambition and intelligence so young, it was obvious that her and her brand were destined for big things. In 2011 Susan was a finalist in The Apprentice. Lord Sugar was impressed with her entrepreneurial spirit and said she would definitely be a force to be reckoned with. A few years on and Tropic Skin Care is the only business outside of the programme Lord Sugar has invested in… well done Susan.

I’ve always been keen to offer cruelty free, organic and vegan make-overs but it’s not always that easy to offer. Ranges are often small and don’t necessarily offer every product you need to complete a look. I’m looking forward to trialing this range of products and introducing it to my kit, alongside other trusted brands such as Arbonne and Alima.

Phase Beauty – LVL lashes

It’s been a while since I’ve found the time to blog as I’ve been busy becoming Mrs Woolley… yippee! Blog post to follow on this!!

Today I wanted to talk about a lash treatment I had prior to my own wedding. A friend of mine had the LVL lash treatment before her own wedding after toying with the idea of false lashes. When I saw her lashes on the day I was really impressed and have had it in the back of my mind ever since.

Very early on I decided I would do my own make-up for my wedding. I knew it was something I could have complete control over. That said applying false eyelashes on myself is a very stressful experience. I can apply them on others in a matter of seconds but on me involves sweat, blood and glue disolving tears!! I spent a while practicing and trying out different techniques but it wasn’t going to happen, grrr! My lashes aren’t awful but they’re definitely not brilliant. They’re poker straight so the idea of a lift suddenly seemed quite appealing. I googled many different places and in the end come accross Fay Clegg who runs Phase Beauty in Portishead. She’s a mobile beauty therapist and this really appealed to me. Just so lovely to have treatments in your own home!

A week before my my treatment I popped round to see her for a patch test, this is obviously vital to ensure you don’t have any allergies to the products she uses. Be sure your beautician does this for you too!!

On the day Fay arrived with her treatment bed and set it up in my living room and talked me through the process really clearly and concisely and then got going. We had a lovely chinwag and then it was done. My lashes had been tinted and had the most lovely natural lift I was over the moon!

Fay describes the lash treatment as ‘a fabulous natural eyelash lift that straightens your eyelashes upwards to give you Length, Volume and Lift! This treatment will leave your eyes looking fantastic for 6-8 weeks!’

This photograph shows the different between my lashes before and after the treatment. Even after 4 weeks they’re still brillant! I would highly recommend this treatment to anyone!

This was me on my wedding day… I think it shows my lash lift well!
