Real Weddings…Lucy and Mike tie the knot!

I first met Lucy in January, she was my first bridal trial of the year and was meeting me just a few weeks after I had managed to break both my elbows like a wally! She was so lovely about it when I warned her that I might need to reschedule, but thankfully I was all mended by the time her trial came round.  I warmed to Lucy straight away, there was something very like-able about her, a real down to earth kind of girl. She said from the start that she would like 2 trials and 2 trials she had, we started with the pinky purply look, which we all agreed looked lovely until trial number two. We decided to go for earthy bronze tones and see what they looked like against her skin tone, it was a light bulb moment for all of us when she looked in the mirror and loved it! We had our look. On the same day her Mum and sister had a trial of their own too, well why not! We had a lovely girly time and as this was the second time I had been to their home I really started to feel like I was getting to know them.

I arrived on the morning of the wedding and there was a lovely buzz of busy excitement in the house. Mum Debbie was making breakfast and Lucy and her sister Katy were all ready for me and her hairdresser to get going so that’s exactly what we did. I started with Lucy as Katy was having her hair done and with just the 2 of them to do on the day it didn’t matter at all which way round we did it.

One very funny moment on the morning was when I couldn’t get the lid off my foundation bottle and being the clumy oaf I am when the lid came loose it flicked foundation halfway across the room and even in the brides hair, we wet ourselves it was hilarious. Thankfully the family thought it was very funny but I was mortified!!! What an idiot!

Lucy’s photographer was a friend of the family aka IPR Images. All the images in this blog are by them.

ND3_0486Lucy’s make up was very simple and quite natural but enhanced her best asset – her eyes! I started with a light base of a Marshmallow (part of the brown Body Shop Shimmer cube set) I used Body Shop Baked to last eyeshadow in Copper over the lids blending up towards the eyebrow. I used the brown of this set along the lash line to enhance and frame her eyes. I used Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in a thin line to line the upper and lower lashes. Finishing with mascara her and her eyes were done. Lucy wanted a nude lip colour so my firm favourite Mac Fanfare was a her lippy of choice.

Katy was next, Katy’s much more confident with her make-up and as she was the only bridesmaid I had quite a bit of freedom to play with her make-up and also having had a trial with her we knew what we were going for. Katy’s dress was a bright almost cerise pink. So pinks and rich purples were our choice. I went for a light base of of very light pink and pale lilacs. I used a strong aubergine shadow to line her lashes and worked this colour upwards, again using Bobbi Brown eye liner to finish and plenty of mascara on Katys very long and fluttery lashes. Bright pink lipstick linked the look to the dress. We chose Body Shop lipstick number 69.

Lucy’s flowers were a beautiful bright array of colours put together expertly by the very talented Rachel from The Rose Shed. There was much excitement when these arrived I can assure you.

Once the girls were all ready it was time to get dressed. I offered to hang around to help with getting Lucy into her dress. It had a corset at the back and I know how they’re not as simple as you might hope. I was also aware that with nails freshly manicured it can be a bit tricky. I hung back until I heard my name called! Before I knew it we were in full swing getting Lucy into her beautiful wedding gown. I can remember Lucy kept saying to us ‘tighter, you can go tighter’! I didn’t want to go too tight be she was the boss! 🙂

The finished result was stunning and I have to say Lucy’s choice to have a veil was perfect, it finished off the look with such elegance,

It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of Lucy and Mike’s day (not that I ever met Mike) and I’m so happy she asked me to be there.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Isaac!

Lucy said...Right from the beginning, when I met you at a wedding fair and had a look at your website I knew I wanted you to do my makeup! I’m not hugely confident with make up and don’t normally wear very much, so I wanted someone who could make me look ‘special’ but still like me, and you totally got that.

On the day itself, you were calm and organised, so I could just relax and enjoy the morning. Also thank you so much for helping with my dress! My sister had been panicking about it for weeks, and if you hadn’t been there I’m not sure we would have made it to the church on time!

My make up lasted the whole day, despite the heat, and I got loads of compliments about it and felt amazing!

Thank you so much!

  1. I am Lucy’s mum Debbie, and I can honestly say it was a pleasure to have you come to our home for the 2 trials and the big day.
Everything was calm and both girls looked fabulous and their make-up lasted all day and evening. Many thanks and we wish you all the best with your business.
