I had to start this blog with this amazing view… I stood on the balcony of the Sandy Cove Hotel near Combe Martin in Devon and thought how lucky I was to be able to work alfresco with this stunning view as a back drop. You can just see at the bottom of the picture the gazebo and seating where Jess and Ste would soon tie the knot.
Going back 8 weeks I meet Jess at her home in Bristol for her trial. She had a specific idea about her wedding day and that was that it should be fun and colourful. She was quite laid back but completely on top of everything I knew her wedding day would bring lots of giggles. Over her trial it was lovely to hear about the story of how the happy couple met, his two daughters and their proposal and I automatically liked them all. Jess’ colour scheme was bright and colourful. She was a proper DIY bride having made the majority of the decorations and not to mention the feather and brooch bouquets. Jess’ Mum kindly made the bridesmaid dresses and each girl wore a different colour. For me this was brilliant. It gave me the ability to really play with colours and as the girls weren’t at all alike there was no need to make them too uniformed.
So on the day I arrived and both Jess and Ste we’re running around decorating the marquee, they weren’t worried about the bride and groom seeing each other on the morning and to be honest I liked that. Just before I whisked Jess away to get ready she quickly ran over Ste’s to do list and we scuttled off.
I got going on Jess’ soon to be step daughters Charlie and Nina (also bridesmaids) who both loved their make-up and we’re generally quite confident in what they wear. They were both quite fair so and had enviable eyelashes so the minute you applied mascara it was like ‘wow’ – not at all jealous! I went for a lilac for Nina to compliment her pink dress and plenty of eye liner and bright pink lippy for Charlie.
Next it was Debs, had a great hair cut that allowed for a funky 50’s style look, plus it complimented the cut of the dresses well. I’d gone for this myself on the morning and she said she would really like that too so we went for it. A champagne eyeshadow accross the lid, then black gel eyeliner with a flick and lashings of mascara, followed by red lips to complete the look! Loved it!
Harry had an equally awesome hair cut so a bit of contouring on the cheeks with a good blusher and bright lips worked equally well for her.
Next it was Jess’ turn, of course we had a plan and natural but pretty was the theme. It was a shimmery look with subtle pinks as background colour and a rich aubergine over the top to add depth. Very different to the other girls and why not! I think at this point the nerves started to kick in and she was off to have her hair done…
As I said Jess was a DIY bride, she made napkin rings from ribbon and buttons and decorated candles with coloured buttons to make the table centre pieces. And of course the pom poms which I know were a joy to put up!!! :)Just like the bridesmaids in their different coloured dresses the tables were all different colours too. Here are a few examples of just some of her bright ideas coming to life!
Finally everyone was ready for the ceremony, chairs we’re out, gazebo was decorated. Jess had put on her dress and the bridesmaids we’re all the colours of the rainbow, including their toes! There was nothing left to do but to get married… Here’s a few she’s kindly sent me from the ceremony.
I can’t help but love the bright underskirts on these dresses!
Jess said she always wanted to get married bare foot and this photo shows she got her wish! Go Jess!
One of the only things Jess or her mum didn’t make was the cake, but it cleverly fitted her theme perfectly. And was made by Liz Cakes whom you can find on Facebook.
Congratulations Jess and Ste, it was a pleasure to be part of your day!
